"Stop the closure of our St Leonards Community Hospital Dorset"
Posted on 10 Dec 2019
A plea from the Friends of St Leonards Hospital
The St Leonard's Hospital League of Friends has heard today that the Hospital may close. The FRIENDS have not been informed and that there has been no consultation with anyone indicating that this was even on the cards.
The friends are going to fight this closure because we all need this hospital.
This hospital provided much needed bed space to help with bed blocking at Bournemouth and Poole, it costs a lot less to keep a patient here than in a main hospital.
The friends have supported and provided so much needed equipment this included: new furniture for wards, lockers, wardrobes, over bed tables, televisions in every room, a new bathroom this year. A gardening club that cost over 6 thousand pounds to set up wheel chairs equipment we fund projects every month to the tune of five hundred pounds, this is essential for stroke victims and other patients alike, when we heard that this was to be cut, the friends stepped in to fund and it goes on.....
Please may I ask for your support Dorset NHS wants to close The Hospital I am asking please if everyone and our friends will support the friends in fighting to keep us going? we have been here as a community hospital since the war and in 1955 the friends started and have raised well over a million pounds this was hospital for the US troops in the last world war the USA gave the hospital to the people with a covenant that there must always be a hospital on site.
The staff who have been here for years always worried about their jobs. This rears its head every few years it causes upset and unrest we need to get our hospital security for the future for staff and patients alike. Thank you.
We need this Hospital it has Community Care it has physiotherapy it has out of hours surgery and much more.
